About Us

South Lakes Music Promotions was formed in 2002 by a group of local enthusiasts with the aim of bringing the best of live folk, blues and acoustic music to Ulverston in the beautiful South Lakes of England.

We are a not for profit venture and all proceeds are ploughed back into bringing more artists to the area and to invest in equipment. We have also raised money for local charities by promoting special events and by producing a compilation DVD of the year’s events to be available for donations at Christmas.

Nick chairs the group, Phil is secretary, Jack handles contracts and is treasurer, John & Nick do the sound while Dave, Jekyll & Derek look after publicity and the door. 

We can usually provide accommodation for artists here in the beautiful South Lakes and have a well equipped PA system and sound engineer able to cater for most requirements.

We have a policy of supporting local new talent. This is in the form of a 15 minute slot at the beginning of the evening and gives an opportunity for up and coming acts to perform in front of an attentive and receptive audience. We vet all potential support acts and in particular support local folk music initiatives for young people. They tend to be of a high standard and some have gone on to compete in the Radio 2 Young Folk Musician of the Year Awards. We hope you appreciate our policy but if for any reason this is not possible (if you provide your own support for example) please let us know.

Our gigs are at a local social club (very comfortable venue with a capacity of 150) and normally take place on the first Thursday of the month apart from July when we coincide with the local music festival (usually a Thursday in mid July).
